CSO Pictures and Sketch
In this assignment,we were expected to spend some time in CSO,take pictures and do some sketching. Here are the 2 free hand sketches and 2 pictures.
.“Music is never about anything;music just is.” is a great quote from Leonard Bernstein (Young People’s Concerts:What Does Music Mean?,1958) that can also be applied to the studio. He supports this argument with another quote: “The meaning of music is in music. It’s in the melodies and the rythms and the harmonies and the way it’s orchestrated, and the most important of all,the way it develops itself.” just like both these statements, the studio discussions also have a lot in common with the general idea of what music means.
The students in the studio think hard and long about the meaning of the structures, lines, paintings and so much more while the instructors try their best to teach us that no,not everything has to represent or mean something, sometimes the “art” is just a neat combination of elements, techniques and the way they harmonise with one another. It just is.

What Does Music Mean?
“Music has it’s own meaning right there for you to find inside the music itself and you don’t need any stories or any pictures to tell you what it is” adds Bernstein. In the studio, there are no single correct answers. Everything is up for interpretation and discussion, because the answer lies within itself, and if it makes you feel good and change inside, then it’s the right answer. We are always encouraged to think,to be curious and to share our own opinions, which makes up our own “right”s. The reasoning that makes the things we learn good or fun is not because there’s a story behind them, but because they just are enjoyable within themselves, and for no other reason. The studio discussions, and the studio itself just “are”.

Facades
In this assignment,we had to analyse the composition of a buillding facade and represent the analysis in layers. The building I chose is the LOOM building in Barcelona.(LOOM Ferretería Pere IV Industrial Building Renovation, Daniel Mòdol, 2022, Barcelona)

The Steltman Chair
Gerrit Rietvel’s work has been highly influential within the architecture and design fields, and inspired people like Breuer and Aalto. The well-known Steltman chair was originally a commission for a jewelry store in the Netherlands that’s called “Steltman”. He designed two chairs that mirrored each other so that while the customers picked jewelry, they could sit comfortably depending on their dominant hand. Rietveld released his designs as an open source by sharing his drawings with people. His cabinetmaker produced saw oak cabinets like these after he died.

The design of the chairs was minimalistic and avant-garde. They are formed by a series of flat planes and straight lines which, when combined, merge cubically and form a structure of right angles and clearly defined edges. The seat is shaped as a square and the chairs have 3 legs, the rear one providing the stability of the chair. The chairs are identical except for the fact that they have mirrored armrests. The opposing shapes form a bond and gain a symbolic meaning.

Towards a New Architecture
By Le Corbusier
According to Le Corbusier's book,The first example of man building his own cosmos in the likeness of nature and subjecting it to the natural rules that govern both our universe and our nature is architecture. Due to a reductio ad absurdum, the rules of dynamics, gravity, and statistics impose themselves: everything must remain together or collapse.

The world as a whole views the one or two individuals who have learned the lesson of primitive man in his glade and who assert that regulating lines really exist as dangerous gas-bags, shirkers, incapables, stupid, and hidebound characters: "You kill imagination with your regulating lines; you make a god-like recipe"

The quest of creative and harmonious relationships is facilitated by the regulating line, which is the fulfillment of a spiritual order. It gives the piece a rhythmic character. This concrete version of mathematics is introduced by the regulating line, providing a comforting sense of order. Selecting a regulating line corrects one of the "fundamental characters" and fixes the work's basic geometry. One of the pivotal moments of inspiration and a crucial architectural operation is the selection of the regulating line.
